GP Bochum

Aufgrund der vermutlich zahlreichen nicht deutschsprechenden Lesern, verfasse ich den folgenden Artikel in Englisch.

Due to the major interest of non-German speaking readers I write the following article in English.

The weekend before last I finally could attend an European Magic Grand Prix and even as a Judge. To be clearly honest I’d never expected that when I opened my first Booster pack more or less one year ago. And even half a year ago, when I decided to active play Magic Tournaments and go to PTQs and so on, I would rather expected to go to a GP as a player than a Judge. Well now I have to say, that I perfectly fine with my decision to focus on my judge activities: It was such an overwhelming weekend.

But we will start with the beginning. As most of you know, I passed the Level-1-Exam as a Judge in July and since then I just judged some small regular events like FNMs and Prereleases. I hadn’t a lot of experience with competitive events not to mention events with more than 100 players. Well at GP Bochum there were 1814 of them!  But first we had to check in our hotel, which was right next to the venue. It is indeed great to arrive at a hotel and hear, that everything is already paid.

I had no clue, what I’m going to do on Friday because I was too stupid to send a email in time to the judge who is going to be charge this day (if you sent an email, make sure it got sent and doesn’t end up in the draft folder). So I just got there and got informed, that I will help out at the Super FNM. Sounds nice, although I probably going to miss the judge dinner. Well, you can’t have everything.
